Tara Gum
Tara shrubs (Caesalpinia spinosa L.) are wild perennials that are grown for commercial purposes exclusively in Peru. The fruits, the tara pods, are collected and threshed on the spot. The threshing process separates the seeds from the husks. The tannin powder won from the husks is used for tanning leather. UNIPEKTIN obtains the seeds or the separated endosperm directly from Peru and further processes these into tara gum using purely physical processes.
Only the endosperm of the tara seeds is used for this purpose.
